About the Role:
The Junior Planner supports the preparation, development, and maintenance of high‑quality project programmes across all project phases. Working closely with the planning, tendering, design, and operations teams, this role assists in programme creation, progress tracking, reporting, risk identification, and ensuring compliance with Planning Department standards. The position is designed to help develop strong foundational skills in planning and scheduling while contributing to the successful delivery of both tender and live projects.
Key Responsibilities
Programme Development & Management
- Assist in developing and maintaining project programmes across all stages (Tender, PCSA, Contract, Execution, Design, Commissioning) using Primavera P6 and MS Project.
- Support the creation of tender programmes from first principles, incorporating lessons learned and previous planning data.
- Help prepare Basis of Schedule documentation.
- Record, model, and update delays, variations, logic changes, and activity durations.
Progress Monitoring & Reporting
- Attend weekly project update meetings to gather progress information and align the programme with actual performance.
- Collect and verify accurate weekly progress data, including start/finish dates.
- Conduct regular site visits (minimum once every four weeks) to validate progress.
- Prepare and maintain a suite of planning reports, including:
- S‑Curves
- 4‑Week Lookaheads
- Planned vs Actual
- Spent vs Earned
- Cost Performance Index (CPI)
- Schedule Performance Index (SPI)
- Any additional reports as required
- Provide regular progress and performance updates to Lead Planners and the Planning Manager.
- Maintain clear, accurate documentation and file management systems.
Coordination & Collaboration
- Liaise with tender design teams, operations, and subcontractors to ensure all activity durations, dependencies, and deliverables are accurately captured.
- Attend client-facing programme meetings and planning workshops as needed.
- Support programme reviews with Regional Lead Planners to ensure quality and consistency.
- Participate in internal planning workshops and departmental training activities.
Risk, Compliance & Governance
- Assist in identifying and escalating programme‑related risks.
- Ensure all Planning Department procedures, standards, and best practices are followed.
- Contribute to departmental improvement initiatives and support the development of graduate planners.
Key Requirements
- Experience using Primavera P6, with a commitment to developing expertise.
- Familiarity with MS Project and a willingness to further enhance skills.
- Data centre project experience is an advantage.
- Strong understanding of project planning principles, including critical path analysis and schedule logic.
- Good understanding of project scope, construction methodology, and risk awareness.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to problem-solving.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment.
