The IBTS is currently recruiting a full-time, permanent, Medical Consultant based in the Medical Consultants Department, National Blood Centre.

The IBTS is a non-commercial state agency with responsibility for collecting, testing, processing and distributing blood and blood products within the Republic of Ireland. We are also responsible for the Irish Unrelated Bone Marrow Registry and the Tissue Bank. We rely completely on our community of voluntary non-remunerated donors to provide sufficient donations to ensure a consistent supply of blood and blood products to enable life-saving patient care. Our products and services are essential to healthcare and impact patient care across a broad range of medical and surgical specialties.
The Donor Care Consultant will work within a team of 8 Consultants in the Medical Directorate and also closely with the Donor Experience and Collections Directorate to ensure that all medical aspects of the Irish Blood Transfusion service are safe and effective.
The Donor Care Consultant will provide medical expertise, national clinical leadership and governance across the end-to-end donor care pathway, enabling the delivery of a safe, sufficient, and effective blood, platelet, and plasma supply for Ireland. The Donor Care Consultant is responsible for donor selection, donor care, and donation-related medical policies and procedures, ensuring they are evidence-based, compliant with legislation, regulatory standards, and international best practice. The role provides strategic leadership for donor management, whole blood and apheresis donation services, adverse event management, and post-donation follow-up, while leading and developing the donor medical team, supporting blood donation strategy, and contributing specialist clinical expertise across initiatives within the Blood Supply, Donor Experience, and Plasma for Medicine programmes to safeguard donor and recipient safety and enhance donor experience.
Essential Criteria:
• Professional Qualifications
• Registration as a specialist on the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council in Ireland in the speciality of Haematology (clinical or laboratory).
• Experience Minimum 2 years’ experience in a clinical, pharmaceutical and/or blood establishment setting.
• Excellent leadership and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a cross functional team
• Demonstrated experience making insightful, timely decisions in difficult, complex situations.
• The successful interviewee must be registered as a Specialist in the Specialist division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council of Ireland.
Desirable Criteria:
• Experience of clinical and laboratory haematology and transfusion medicine or donor medicine/donor selection
• Experience of undergraduate / postgraduate education and training
The salary scale attached to the post is the Clinician Consultant scale €238,221 to €286,151 (incl. LSI) pro rata per annum. Entry point onto the salary scale is dependent upon relevant experience.

c) A citizen of Switzerland in regards to the agreement between the EU and Switzerland on the movement of people
d) A non-EEA citizen who has a stamp 4 visa
e) A person awarded international protection under the International Protection Act 2015, or any family member entitled to remain in the State as a result of family reunification and has a stamp 4 visa
or
f) A non-EEA citizen who is a parent of a dependant child who is a citizen of and resident in an EEA member state if the UK or Switzerland and has a stamp 4 visa.
