Jacobs is delivering major Heavy Rail, Light Rail and Metro projects across Ireland, including the Cork Line Level Crossings, Galway Line, Station Accessibility Programme, Cork Luas and MetroLink. These programmes span all stages of delivery—from Option Selection and Consenting to Detailed Design and Construction.
As we continue to expand our presence on the island of Ireland, we are committed to playing a central role in supporting Iarnród Éireann, Transport Infrastructure Ireland and the National Transport Authority in delivering the All‑Island Strategic Rail Review and the wider National Development Plan.
As Permanent Way Lead, you will play a key leadership role in driving project delivery, strengthening client relationships and supporting the growth of our rail capability across Ireland. You will help build and lead our Permanent Way team while contributing to technical excellence, innovation and securing new opportunities for Jacobs.

Key deliverables : (not limited to)
- Lead Permanent Way engineering delivery, driving safe, timely and cost‑effective completion of all Permanent Way activities.
- Ensuring full alignment with Irish Rail standards, client requirements and relevant legislation, including CDM and CSM‑RA.
- Oversee design and construction compliance, maintaining rigorous compliance with standards, approvals processes and technical specifications.
- Manage and assure Permanent Way design and construction elements—reviewing outputs, addressing risks, and
- Act as a technical authority for P‑Way.
- Serve as CRE/SPE/PE (or equivalent), providing trusted engineering leadership and resolving complex technical issues.
- To be based in Ireland to support strong face‑to‑face engagement with key clients.
- Experience acting as Permanent Way Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE), Senior Project Engineer (SPE), Project Engineer (PE) or equivalent.
- Proven ability to lead Permanent Way engineering activities, ensuring safe, timely and cost‑effective delivery of client requirements.
- Experience managing Permanent Way design and/or construction elements, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and legislation.
- Competency in CDM, CSM‑RA, risk assessment and Engineering Management.
- Working knowledge of Irish Rail standards, approval processes and standard deliverables.
- Knowledge of Bentley RailTrack, Bentley OpenRail, ClearRoute2, DGauge Rift and/or Bentley MicroStation.
