The Role: 

The Asset Operations function forms the cornerstone of service delivery to customers, protecting the environment and meeting regulatory standards as well as managing the majority of operational expenditure. The Asset Operations function has responsibility for operational and maintenance strategy, policies, planning and standard operating procedures for Water and Wastewater operations both nationally and regionally, ensuring that value for money and customer service is delivered. 

The Integrated Operations function monitors the performance of the operating environment, ensuring risks to service continuity are identified and managed and that the Customer first approach is at the forefront of Asset Operations activities. This will include the performance of the asset base, optimising production and managing network integrity during interventions.

The ICA team play a key part in ensuring the operation of UÉ’s asset base and the quality of the data that is utilised by the field, telemetry and NOMC teams.

The Instrumentation, Control and Automation Operational Technology Senior Operative reports to the ICA Operational Technology Supervisor and supports maintenance activity of assets under ICA Dept remit to ensure excellent response to operational needs. This involves being responsible for both planned and reactive, Instrument, Control and Automation activities.

Out of hours working will be required and appropriate overtime and standby rates will apply.

We are currently recruiting for positions nationally. A panel will be established for vacancies that may arise on an ongoing basis.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

• Supports the delivery of planned, preventative and reactive instrumentation, controls and automation (ICA) maintenance and repair activities across the UÉ asset base as part of the ICA team.

• Undertakes a range of instrumentation, controls and automation maintenance tasks as part of the internal ICA team and in coordination with extern The Instrumentation, Control and Automation Operational Technology Senior Operative reports to the ICA Operational Technology Supervisor and supports maintenance activity of assets under ICA Dept remit to ensure excellent response to operational needs.  This involves being responsible for both planned and reactive, Instrument, Control and Automation activities.al contractors, which will include but is not limited to fault finding, diagnosing, testing, repairing, replacing, validating, installing, updating, configuring, commissioning, decommissioning, calibrating of assets under the ICA teams’ remit.

• Completes recommended and relevant training courses for equipment and assets managed by the ICA team.

• Expected to participate in on-the-job learning while working with multiple manufacturers equipment.

• Work as part of the team and supports colleagues by following direction and guidance to ensure the provision of effective ICA maintenance and repair services.

• Works in accordance with defined levels of operational competence ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements, QA systems and procedures using the technology provided by UE, for example hand-held units.

• Follows guidance for the team’s material consumption, ensuring efficient use of vehicles and use of assigned equipment required for the role.

• Contributes to the effectiveness of the team to support, develop and grow the skills of all team members including apprentices through coaching, training and guidance.

• Follows standard operating procedures that maximise quality of output, efficiency and supports the adoption of processes.

• Participates in team meetings, productivity discussions and performance related conversations as required.

• Adheres to policy requirements and best practice standards including safe working practices.

• Operate and maintain Irish Water vehicles, as required, in a responsible manner in line with all relevant UÉ vehicle, health, safety and security policies. 

• Ensure vehicle compliance, completing vehicle inspections and recording and reporting any vehicle defects to Supervisor, Facilities & Fleet team.

• Ensure all information is accurately recorded and promptly reported for audit purposes.

• Supporting the investigation of escalated customer complaints/ local representative queries by providing required information and actions taken.

• Assist in maintaining effective stores inventory to ensure critical spares are in place as required.

• Assist in incident and emergency response activities as required, ensuring all health and safety standards are met.

• Raises and completes work orders, provides updates, information to support monitoring and reporting of activities and KPIs for processes relevant to the role.

• Support effective communication within ICA team by providing timely information to supervisors, colleagues and stakeholders.

General Duties and Responsibilities

• Collaboration with key internal stakeholders across the UÉ business.

• Adheres to and supports health and safety commitments across UÉ and its supply chain, reinforcing positive behaviours, complies with health and safety objectives and requirements to the highest industry standards. 

• Conducts duties and responsibilities in accordance with Uisce Éireann’s Information Security policies, standards, processes and controls to protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of UÉ business information, and delivery of critical services, in accordance with the NIS Directive and any other relevant cybersecurity regulation.

• Other duties as required.

   

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

• Minimum requirement is  QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate or equivalent in one of the below disciplines:

  • Craft of Electrical Instrumentation

  • Craft of Electrical and Instrumentation

  • Craft of Instrumentation

  • Craft of Electrical with relevant Instrumentation experience

• A minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience is required. 

• Experience in the water, utilities or similar industries is desirable. 

• Experience in Mechanical, Electrical and Pneumatic systems an advantage. 

• Experience of working with automated control systems an advantage.

• We deliver for customers and communities - experience of working with control systems, servicing and maintaining of instrumentation installed on plants to automatically monitor and control processes is an advantage.

• A good understanding of the working of PLC, HMI, SCADA, VSD, Analogue and Digital IO (4-20mA), Instruments is preferable.

• Experience of using IT systems and a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office e.g. Word & Excel is required.

• Strong literacy skills.

• With full training and risk assessment, the role holder must have the ability to work in, drinking water and wastewater environments that will require use of PPE, and enter confined spaces using specialist equipment where trained to do so.

• Full, clean and valid Irish category B driving licence is minimum requirement.  Additional Driving License categories an advantage. A clean driving licence is defined as meaning that the applicant has not been convicted of an offence under the Road Traffic Acts (other than an offence for which the penalty is the imposition of penalty points).
