About the Role 

Reporting directly to the Commissioning Group Director, the Commissioning specialist Team Lead will play a pivotal role from project initiation through to post-energisation testing. This role involves mentoring junior team members and overseeing the activities of commissioning engineers, technicians, and subcontractors on-site. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Lead a team of commissioning engineers to deliver large projects within the region in line with the Regional Commissioning Manager. 
  • Provide expert technical support for all commissioning activities, including protection, SCADA, secondary and primary testing, and troubleshooting. 
  • Mentor, train, and develop graduate and experienced commissioning staff, ensuring knowledge transfer and skills development on site. 
  • Support the implementation and standardization of commissioning processes, tools, and documentation across all projects in the region. 
  • Act as the regional point of contact for complex technical issues, escalating and collaborating with the Commissioning Technical Manager as required. 
  • Ensure all commissioning activities are aligned with the group’s technical strategy, standards, and work plans, maintaining regular communication with the Technical Manager and their team. 
  • Coordinate with the site team and operations to ensure smooth execution of commissioning activities. 
  • Organize resources using the commissioning forecast planner. 
  • Ensure team maintain comprehensive commissioning and test documentation throughout the project lifecycle. 
  • Participate in the development and delivery of training materials and technical presentations for staff and clients. 
  • Support the roll-out of new technologies, equipment, and digitalization initiatives within the region. 
  • Provide feedback to senior management on project progress, technical challenges, and opportunities for improvement. 
  • Represent the region in technical forums, conferences, and standardization initiatives as required. 
  • Provide operational support and technical guidance to switching operations across the business 
  • Plan upcoming works, scope of work for tender, and commissioning schedules. 
  • Coordinate with Design and Protection specialists to ensure commissioning can commence. 
  • Participate in project commissioning kick-off and coordination meetings. 
  • Develop and manage commissioning schedules, ensuring the availability of personnel. 
  • Organise and maintain test equipment for the commissioning team. 
  • Supervise commissioning engineers, technicians, and subcontractors to ensure effective execution of activities. 
  • Liaise with clients and contractors, resolving issues to ensure seamless project progression. 
  • Report any equipment defects or calibration issues to the Quality Department. 

Skills/Requirements: 

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering. 
  • Over 10 years of relevant industry experience. 
  • Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability. 
  • Proficiency in commissioning softwares/platforms. 
  • Strong communication skills. 
  • Operational experience with vendor equipment. 
  • Proven leadership and team management capabilities. 
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
