About the role:
The Electrical Engineer (Preconstruction) supports the Preconstruction Manager in delivering preconstruction electrical activities from estimating handover through project setup and handover to the project delivery team. The role provides structured support across construction pack development, cable schedules, secondary design reviews, procurement schedules, material selection and take-offs, constructability reviews, commercial tender support, program inputs, project-specific trackers, QCx planning and controlled handover of preconstruction information. The role operates under the direction of the Preconstruction Manager and is intended to support the wider preconstruction team in preparing accurate, coordinated, and project-ready deliverables.
Key Responsibilities & Duties:
• Assist with the development of electrical construction packs from design information, including the preparation, review, and coordination of cable schedules, procurement schedules, material selections, and material take-offs.
• Support secondary design reviews by checking drawings, schedules, layouts, and associated technical information for completeness, coordination, and alignment with project requirements.
• Assist with constructability reviews, including material selection, containment selection and routing, ducting and containment capacity checks, and 3D model coordination review inputs.
• Support the commercial team with subcontractor tender pack coordination by collating technical information, preparing package inputs, tracking clarifications, and maintaining controlled records of tender information issued for review.
• Assist with the analysis, comparison, and technical review of subcontractor and specialist subcontractor proposals, including identification of gaps, exclusions, qualifications, or items requiring escalation to the Preconstruction Manager.
• Support gap analysis between H&MV scope and OFE vendor information by reviewing drawings, schedules, vendor documentation, and package interfaces under the direction of the Preconstruction Manager.
• Assist the Preconstruction Manager, Project Manager, and commercial team in setting up the project budget structure based on the tender estimate by helping to collate supporting technical and package information.
• Provide program support by assisting with integrated schedule inputs, procurement lead-time information, package readiness dates, project-specific trackers, critical path items, and early works packages required to support timely mobilisation.
• Support quality and commissioning (QCx) planning by assisting with ITP review and comment coordination, quality deliverable tracking, commissioning readiness information, and controlled handover of quality-related documentation to the project team.
• Assist in providing guidance material, trackers, and supporting information to project teams regarding project quality and commissioning expectations, escalating any uncertainties or non-alignment to the Preconstruction Manager.
Qualifications & Experience:
• Degree, diploma, or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Power Systems, or a related technical discipline.
• 3+ years’ relevant experience in electrical engineering or project engineering.
• Understanding of LV/MV electrical systems, cable schedules, procurement schedules, electrical drawings, containment systems, equipment layouts, and material take-offs.
• Awareness of construction pack development, secondary design review, constructability review, subcontractor tendering, procurement coordination, project tracking, ITPs, asset tagging, and commissioning documentation.
• Desirable exposure to data centre, substation, renewable energy, transmission and distribution, BIM/3D model review, vendor documentation, or digital project platforms. Key Competencies
• Technical knowledge of electrical design information, construction packs, cable schedules, procurement schedules, materials take-offs, and project documentation.
• Ability to review information carefully and identify inconsistencies, missing data, coordination issues, or items requiring escalation.
• Organised approach to maintaining trackers, registers, clarification logs, program inputs, tender support information, and handover records.
• Good communication skills, with the ability to record design review comments, tender clarifications, program actions, and quality/commissioning inputs clearly.
• Collaborative working style with preconstruction, project management, commercial, procurement, design, QA/QC, commissioning, and document control teams.
