About the Role:
The Senior Estimator will work within the Civil, Structural and Architectural (CSA) estimating team, supporting the preparation of detailed and accurate cost estimates for high-voltage substation and grid connection projects in the Renewable Energy and Data Centre sectors. This role requires close collaboration with regional leads, contractors, engineers, and project planners to ensure competitive, technically compliant tenders are developed and submitted.
Key Responsibilities
- Work alongside the CSA estimating team and regional leads to provide pricing for Renewable and Data Centre projects involving High Voltage Substations and Grid Routes.
- Review RFQs to understand project scope and tender requirements.
- Engage with regional contractors to obtain pricing for civil elements of work based on tender location.
- Complete quantity take-offs from design drawings to develop in-house Bills of Quantities (BOQ).
- Prepare and issue Requests for Quotation (RFQs) for material supply and subcontract packages to support internal cost comparison and pricing accuracy.
- Participate in design review meetings to identify and evaluate value engineering opportunities.
- Attend site visits as required by the tender process.
- Review employer requirements to ensure full scope and compliance are captured in tender submissions.
- Evaluate received quotations for technical compliance and cost-effectiveness, ensuring the most competitive and compliant options are used.
- Identify and cost potential value engineering options to provide cost savings or scope efficiencies.
- Coordinate with engineering and electrical estimating teams to confirm cable and equipment sizing for accurate civil design elements such as duct sizes and foundation plinths.
- Collaborate with the project planner to prepare detailed tender programmes for civil works.
- Review preliminaries with the operations team to align with construction period and bid requirements.
- Organise and manage the handover of secured projects to the Operations team following successful tender award.
- Participate in pre- and post-bid meetings with clients as required.
Qualifications & Experience
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in estimating, ideally within the civil or electrical infrastructure sectors.
• Proven experience in estimating for high-voltage substations, grid connections, or similar large-scale EPC projects.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
• Strong commercial and analytical acumen with attention to detail.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and estimating software.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Willingness to travel for site visits and meetings as required.
