About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and driven Senior Payroll Specialist to oversee and enhance payroll operations across multiple regions in Europe. This role will take ownership of payroll processing, drive process improvements, and support the expansion of global payroll activities. 

The successful candidate will act as a key point of expertise, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and efficiency while collaborating closely with HR, Finance, employees’ and external payroll providers. 

Key Responsibilities 

• Take full ownership of end-to-end payroll delivery, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness across all payrolls 

• Oversee and review payroll outputs from outsourced payroll providers, ensuring high-quality service delivery 

• Manage payroll calendars, deadlines, and controls across multiple jurisdictions 

• Act as the subject matter expert (SME) for payroll processes, legislation, and best practices 

• Ensure compliance with local regulations, tax requirements, and GDPR standards 

• Lead the resolution of complex payroll queries, escalations, and discrepancies 

• Develop, standardise, and continuously improve payroll processes, controls, and documentation 

• Partner with HR and Finance to ensure seamless data flow and alignment across systems 

• Drive automation and efficiency initiatives to optimise payroll operations 

• Prepare and review payroll reports, reconciliations, and audit documentation 

• Play a key role in global payroll expansion projects, including new country setups and vendor selection 

• Build and maintain strong relationships with external payroll vendors and internal stakeholders 

• Mentor and support junior team members where applicable 

• Contribute to wider finance and HR transformation initiatives 

Skills & Experience Required 

• Significant experience in a payroll role, with exposure to European & US payroll 

• Exposure to Bright pay, Megapay or similar systems  

• Strong knowledge of payroll legislation, compliance, and controls 

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail 

• Advanced Excel skills and ability to work across multiple systems/platforms 

• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities 

• Confident communicator with strong stakeholder management experience 

• Ability to work strategically while also remaining hands-on in payroll processing 

• Experience with payroll transformations, implementations, or process improvements is highly desirable 

• Additional European language(s) an advantage
