Summary of the Business: 
 
The National Treasury Management Agency (NTMA) provides asset and liability management services to the Irish Government. It has evolved from a single function agency managing the National Debt to a manager of a complex portfolio of public assets and liabilities.

Businesses managed by the NTMA include borrowing on behalf of the Government and the management of the National Debt, the State Claims Agency, the New Economy and Recovery Authority (“NewERA”), the Ireland Strategic Investment Fund, National Development Finance Agency and the NTMA Future Ireland Funds business unit with responsibility for the management of the Future Ireland Fund and Infrastructure, Climate and Nature Fund.

The NTMA also assigns staff to the Strategic Banking Corporation of Ireland (SBCI) and Home Building Finance Ireland (HBFI).


Role Summary: 
 
This is an exciting opportunity for talented and motivated graduates to join the Future Ireland Fund business unit of the NTMA on a 23-month Associate Programme commencing in September 2027. The programme is open to graduates with a degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Corporate Strategy, Commerce or a related discipline. 
 

Future Ireland Funds division: 
  
The NTMA manages both the Future Ireland Fund (FIF) which aims to ensure steady and long-term support for state expenditure from 2041, and the Infrastructure, Climate and Nature Fund (ICNF) which is designed to bolster state spending in response to economic downturns or to fund environmental initiatives between 2026 and 2030. The Funds were established in 2024 and currently have over €20 billion of assets and are expected to continue to grow over the coming years.
 
The Associate will be required to work alongside all colleagues across the full range of the business unit’s investment and operational activities. The Associate will support the division / business unit through day-to-day duties including but not limited to: 
 
•    Supporting all aspects of the investment life cycle including investment strategy, manager selection and fund monitoring 
•    Producing high-quality reports and papers for internal stakeholders 
•    Investment research and analysis 
•    Financial modelling and analysis 
•    Working collaboratively with colleagues, partners and stakeholders 
•    Support senior team members across all the Funds’ activities 
 
At the end of the programme the successful Associate will have developed a solid knowledge base of the Future Ireland Fund unit and the wider NTMA.

Learning and Development:  


Typically, Associates within this division also undertake professional qualifications such as the CFA. They are supported through the full range of NTMA study supports, complemented by a comprehensive Associate Development Programme, an Associate network spanning the NTMA, and extensive on-the-job learning opportunities.

Successful candidates will have a minimum of a 2.1 honours degree or a minimum of a 2.1 Masters, ideally in a related discipline. 
 
Applicants must have the correct legal status to work in Ireland (Irish Citizen, EEA Citizen, Stamp 4, Stamp 1G Visa).

Pension Abatement

 

If an appointee has previously been employed in the Civil or Public Service and that appointee is entitled to or in receipt of a pension from the Civil or Public Service or where a Civil/Public Service pension comes into payment during the appointee’s re-employment that pension will be subject to abatement in accordance with Section 52 of the Public Service Pensions (Single Scheme and other Provisions) Act 2012.
