Role Profile
Applications are invited from enthusiastic and suitably qualified candidates for this full-time, 9-month fixed term contract as a Post-Doctoral Researcher at Dublin City University. This position is available from the 1st June 2026. This project, funded by the Department of Health, is tasked with conducting a comprehensive national evaluation of the 2009 Children’s Palliative Care policy recommendations.
The evaluation aims to:
- identify and quantify areas of progress,
- highlight barriers to progress,
- identify policy gaps,
- review international evidence on children’s palliative care delivery structures, effectiveness and cost-effectiveness, emerging healthcare challenges and structures and their implications for children’s palliative care
- and provide actionable, evidence-based recommendations to shape the future of the Irish healthcare landscape for children with life-limiting conditions and their families.
The appointee will join a multidisciplinary team with world-class expertise spanning paediatric palliative care, paediatric clinical practice, health economics, health systems research, and advanced qualitative and quantitative methodologies.
The Post-Doctoral Researcher will play a pivotal leadership role in the day-to-day execution of the evaluation. The post is based on the Glasnevin Campus of Dublin City University, and the appointee will report to the Co-Leads, Professor Veronica Lambert (DCU) and Dr Samantha Smith (TCD).

Salary Scale:
IUA Postdoctoral Researcher Salary Scale: (point 1 to point 6) €47,273 - €53,925 per annum.
This is a 9-month fixed term contract; therefore, salary will be paid pro- rata.
Appointments will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and will be made in line with current Government pay policy.
